“ The asteroid-like pieces of carved wood bring the heavens to earth—juxtaposing a familiar organic material with a form that evokes the mysterious unknown objects hurtling through the universe and echoing the notion that every material we encounter contains atoms forged in the furnace of dying stars. ”

Andy Harding is a sculptor living and working in Nashville, Tennessee. His work harmoniously balances geometric and organic shapes in an exploration of the complex and dynamic cycle of order and entropy “that bears witness to both the emergence of form and its dissolution in the multifaceted processes that make up the natural world.”

The works often emulate scientific diagrams or other-worldly artifacts. Harding’s works serve as “a reflection or a meditation on both the interrelatedness and the unique singularity of all things.” The familiarity of the materials in Harding’s recombinant sculptures—along with the interplay between natural and man-made—grant the forms a distinct Otherness, an almost-alien beauty.

Harding has exhibited in solo and group shows with Tinney Contemporary, Zeitgeist Gallery, Nashville Public Library, San Diego Art Institute, Kingston Gallery, Boston, MA, and Art Chicago.  After living and working in Chicago for a six-year stint, Harding is back creating work in his Nashville home base once again.
