Tinney Contemporary is proud to present FROM THE HALLWAY, an exhibition of works by Jeanie Gooden.

Gooden’s large, abstract paintings were made during time in isolation—yet they indicate a communicative impulse which beckons, as it were, “From the Hallway.” Each gestural marking inscribes a grasp at common language with which to describe the present moment, an attempt to carve out shared space amidst an increasingly atomized present.

Inspired by the colors and textures of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (where Gooden primarily works) each painting incorporates textiles, found metal, exposed nail heads, hand-stitching, and other mixed-media.
Polished lacquer encases the rugged, layered surfaces of the canvas, imbuing the work with a certain tension. The paintings feel simultaneously inviting and forbidding, as if each surface exists as both barrier and portal. This duality reflects the notion of the “hallway” as a liminal space; an interval between established zones, defined by movement and transition.

Through Gooden’s hallway, we find possibility – a way forward, a way out of isolation and into communal space
